Description
This is an unusual volume, as the seventh in the Life Paths series. The first five outline the careers of one of the outstanding engineers, the sixth, A Sziget, is a presentation of one of the famous workshops of Hungarian scientific research. But this, the seventh, as the title suggests: the life of the author himself. It tells not only about the experience of the decades spent in the engineering profession, but also about the turning points of a fate plagued by the tragic plagues of history: the trials and rise of a wealthy, assimilated Hungarian bourgeois family in the twentieth century. Perhaps the predestination worked in him, the author admits, when he found pleasures and successes in the writing craft in his late years. He began working in industry at the beginning of his diverse career, then became a researcher, then a civil servant in the public administration. Nuclear engineer, doctor. Since retiring, he has written and edited books (this is the twenty-eighth) in addition to thousands of scientific articles, including Our Fate, which dissected the Bősnagymaros Dam. He now reveals to his readers how a talented little girl growing up in a war and Holocaust-stricken family has become a decent middle-class citizen, a wealthy engineer who is satisfied with his work. The most proud of his many awards is the Techné Medal he received from the Hungarian Academy of Engineers.
