Description
The author - in the footsteps of Aladár Komlós - cut to him both to redefine Hungarian-Jewish literature and to tell a story that was barely a hundred years old. The monograph - and it can be no other - is primarily a social history. He follows the path of the Jews wishing to become Hungarian on the pitfalls of assimilation or integration into Hungarian society until the failure of the great experiment. On the sensitive medium - the literature, which is the most transparent measure of identity and therefore the most profound mirror of the process. The work compiled with a monographic demand, with “academic” notes, bibliography and name index, is, of course, not the history of an ethnic group, but of the universal Hungarians according to their faith and aspirations. After all, he discusses, summarizes and suggests the interaction of Jews and non-Jews for rediscovery and correction of the entire Hungarian literary canon. So to re - evaluate the Hungarian Jewish coexistence - with Ady 's metaphor of Korrobor dance. Not at the last, but at the last moment. At the same time, this experiment is also the history of Hungarian modernity - because the entry of the Jews into the realm of the Hungarian spirit coincided organically with the beginning of Hungarian modernity. Therefore, instead of the “deconstruction” occupied by Jacques Derrida, the book explores the modernization of Hungarian culture using the method of “splitting and re-weaving” - the results of which were retained even if their innovators were plowed out of the television of Hungarian culture. In this summary work, János Kőbányai combined all the experience he had gained since the creation of the magazine Past and Future - and then a book publisher - as a teacher with a lesson before his disciples, penetrating the Atlantis world of Hungarian Jewish literature, and from there all the time. saving treasures to the surface, complemented by the knowledge and methods acquired in the Ph.D program of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The book, richly illustrated with “comics” by authors and institutions, is expected to go on sale in bookstores in the fall of 2012.
