The cursed Hungarian

I would have had the opportunity to stay out countless times. But this is my country. I feel love for him from within. I traveled the world, yet I always came home. The first temptation came when I was photographing just around the border in 56, and returning from photography in the mountains in Sopron, I hear from the speaker on the street that the revolution broke out in Pest. My friend promised to just "walk across" the border. (...) After 56 came the second temptation. On the occasion of an exhibition in Austria, I was offered to be the artistic director of the Vienna Telegraph Office. (...) In August 1980, when I received my first Award for Outstanding Photography of the Century in New York, I was strongly encouraged to stay out at a reception and gala dinner held in my honor. (...) I said no every time.
