Joseph K., the nameless average man (Kyle MacLachlan), wakes up one morning in his boardroom and is about to have breakfast when two restrained, polite strangers show up to him and tell him he's under arrest. K. is quite surprised, but much more astonished, when it turns out that his "arrest" actually only exists on paper: he can still live his daily life, go to work and maintain his contacts. One day, however, the inevitable subpoena arrives, and Joseph K., who otherwise considers himself completely innocent, is forced to face the iron tightness of the law. Namely, that he had no idea what he had done to him!
