Description
In the 128th volume of the "Help books for the study of linguistics" series, TINTA Publishing House publishes the written version of the lectures of the student scientific conference organized in December 2010 by the Applied Linguistics Workshop of the Linguistics Science Student Circle of ELTE BTK. In the volume, twelve studies present some traditional, but still current research areas of applied linguistics. In this way, the reader can get answers to the following questions, among others: What are the psycholinguistic characteristics of map reading? What is the role of silent breaks in the spontaneous speech of schoolchildren? What are the main challenges of organizing electronic music terminology? How can a person be identified based on the intensity structure of their speech and the stylistic characteristics of their written text? What language attitudes characterize the Marikas, and how do they relate to the uniform literary norm? The volume also contains the edited version of the round table discussion held in the framework of the student conference by Professor János Zsilka (1930–1999), the former school-creating head of the Department of General and Applied Linguistics, about organic-dialectical language theory and its effects. In addition to linguists, language teachers, and university and doctoral students, all interested readers can benefit from studying the volume, since applied linguistics is – by its very nature – a discipline of public interest.
