Description
The press history of the esteemed 20th century - which I have been researching as a journalist and historian for three decades - provides inexhaustible additions to my eternal subject, the relationship between my chosen profession and power. I prefer to call these my writings - whether detailed studies, unknown document releases mined from the depths of archives, or longer or shorter articles - chronicles. For past-browsing chronicles that try to look behind the published lines. After all, it is relatively easy to track down when, where and how it appeared. Guessing the "behind" and finding them - well, this was always the most exciting challenge for me. To find an answer to what consequences political interests and backroom deals had on the public and press freedom, why they did not appear, or why they only appeared mutilated in the Hungarian press, which was controlled in some way throughout the 20th century and often spoke under shackles. As the title suggests and the table of contents confirms, my book is made up of puzzle pieces. From mixed texts that appeared in various organs, books, and magazines over the course of three decades, and to which I subsequently added many new "spots", fragments of facts, and documents of source value that have been found since then. According to my hopes, all of these collected together will not only come together for me into an exciting, interdependent and complementary stream of chronicles.
