Description
Artmagazin's articles are published in the field of contemporary and classical art, focusing on Hungarian and international events, research, trends and trends. Our interest extends to border areas: fashion and design are as much a topic here as the connection points between theater, architecture and music. ARTMAGAZIN 128. Surely the poorer period of the exhibitions in recent months also contributed to the fact that a larger number of problems could be discussed in detail, and the oeuvres, groups of works and motif migrations could be summarized in a more breath-taking manner. This is how this special issue of the study could have been compiled, which is still related to current events, because our authors wrote about books and exhibitions at length and in a more analytical way than usual. It is a common understanding that Hungarian art history writing and the art press have debts: there is sometimes an increased and general interest in certain areas, while others are out of the mainstream for some reason. The special starter of József Mélyi would surely be able to make additions, describing this debt as a spiral of increasing radius, while also listing the initiatives that are working to process the arrears. There are oeuvres, for example, that are covered in many articles, but a possible change in style sometimes interrupts interpretive work. We have now written about the works of József Csató from Sándor Hornyik, which connects them not only to domestic and international contemporary trends, but also to the Hungarian art tradition. Art outside of Euro-Atlantic culture is not always given enough space either, but Béla Kelényi's study tries to revolve around the transmission through which a Far Eastern motif, a Japanese-style Buddha representation, could be reborn in Hungary between the two wars, even as a home decoration. We also write about unfamiliar collections of portraits of unknown painters, such as Judit Kaszab, who has had a great career in Australia, or artists. Then there is a genre that can be considered disadvantaged in the art literature: the international and domestic context of a series of sculptures that have unfortunately been almost completely destroyed now unfolds from Gábor Tokai's long-awaited article. Architecture is not left out either: Julianna P. Szűcs analyzes the recently published Árkay book, but we will also give the reader an extremely thorough description of the soon-to-reopen exhibition: in the Church Square of the Kiscelli Museum you can see Zsolt Asztalos installation.
