Description
In this volume of our series presenting the Parliament, you can get to know the library that has been operating in the building since 1902. The Parliamentary Library, founded in 1870, has a dual function today, providing important services to the actors of parliamentary life and the general public. The institution, which was originally only available to representatives, became public in 1952, and even today all Hungarian and foreign citizens over the age of 18 can enroll. Generations have already used the rich social science collection, which has been expanded by dedicated librarians since its foundation. The legacy of famous scientists and politicians enriched the stock. In the large reading room, where representatives and famous politicians once read magazines, newspapers, historical works and requested data, quotations, and legislation when discussing bills, since 1952 law and humanities students study, scientists and professors conduct research, dissertations and books are published. Several of them wrote fondly about their years spent in the library in their memoirs. We invite our readers to visit the following pages, offering a glimpse into the past and present of the Parliamentary Library.
