Description
One dawn in the early spring of 1838, Pest found itself in captivity of the Danube leaving its bed. Some of the population tried to escape to the higher Buda, but in the absence of a bridge, this seemed an almost impossible undertaking. The idea was formulated by the city leadership: a bridge is needed between Pest and Buda. Zoltán Vas, the teenage son of a Pest pharmacist, is fascinated by the construction of the Chain Bridge. He regularly spends his afternoons at the construction site, and also makes friends with Ádám Clark. He decides to follow in the footsteps of the British engineer. In the meantime, their friendship with the beautiful girl from Buda, Lina, blossoms into love, which is overshadowed by the war of independence of 1848-1949. To save his life, Zoltán has to hide after laying down his arms. Will their love stand the test? What obstacles does the ruthless power throw in front of them? Will Lina manage to help her partner from a distance in the greatest secret? And for Zoltán, so that his identity is not revealed? The publication of the book was supported by the National Cultural Fund.
