It is difficult to define childhood by the number of years, just as it is difficult to separate children's songs from adult songs. For many European peoples, we cannot even distinguish between the two. That's why in this collection, we've combined the mother's lullaby, the children's singing game, the young people's joking or dancing song into one bouquet. As state borders that change even today do not coincide with the borders of national cultures or languages, our two-volume collection - with forced inconsistencies here and there - was compiled according to the "people's map", recommended to children, parents and teachers alike.
