Goldoni and Venice

Carlo Goldoni in the XVIII. one of the most significant comedy composers and theater reformers of the 20th century. During his thirty years in Venice, he travels a huge journey between commedia dell’arte and poetic-realist pieces. Its theatrical operation is inseparable from contemporary Venice and its vibrant theatrical life, the relentless rivalry between Venetian theaters and theatrical authors. Goldoni was a theatrical man: after writing his plays, he took part in staging them, collaborated with three companies as a home composer, and knew exactly how the companies worked, the actors' abilities, possible working methods and personalities. The book interprets Goldoni’s theatrical reform, accompanied by an ongoing interaction with the Venetian theatrical environment, and aims to provide further assistance in navigating Goldoni’s oeuvre with the synopsis collection in the appendix.
