Description
The reader is holding an unusual pilgrimage book in his hand. In the pages of the book we do not find gracious prayers or religious songs, but rather the memoirs of a modern-day tourist pilgrim appear during reading, which can even be considered a reading guide. The first part of the book could also be titled Following in the Footsteps of Jesus, as the author guides his readers through the most popular pilgrimage site in the Holy Land. The Holy Land was the destination of the first Christian pilgrims and, despite its various difficulties, is still popular today. In the second part of the book, as a counterpoint to the first part, the writer guides you to a place of pilgrimage that is slowly being completely forgotten. The pilgrimages to Aachen in the early Middle Ages rivaled the popularity of Rome or Compostella. The pilgrimage on the anniversary of the consecration of the cathedral was so popular that the XIV. From the 16th century onwards, the authorities only allowed these main parties to be held every seven years. If the author was already able to take part in the great pilgrimage in 2014 as a friendly visit, it was an excellent opportunity to guide his interested readers to the sights of Aachen and its surroundings. We are surprised to see how many changes have taken place in the Catholic Church, in culture, and in Hungarian and world politics, despite the only thirty-five years that have passed between the two pilgrimages. The book works and entertains at the same time, its style is an enjoyable read for those who know the places of pilgrimage well and less well. The unusual pilgrimage book, which also fits the directions, is enhanced by photographs by Attila Bereck and the author.
