Description
In recent decades, significant progress has been made in processing and publishing the medieval built heritage of historical Hungary. Medieval art along the Szamos I. and II. his volume also contributes to this scientific work. The regional summaries, interweaving as many areas of the former Kingdom of Hungary as possible before 1526, make it possible to create larger, more comprehensive syntheses, to put it a little more pathetically: the continuous rewriting of art history. The last three of them were published in Hungarian, from Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Szatmár counties, including Transylvania. It is obvious that along the Szamos, which opens into the Tisza, we get from the territory of the former Szatmár county to an art-geographical region, the medieval memories of which were researched by the outstanding personalities of Hungarian art history writing, mainly in the 19th century. In the second half of the twentieth century, however, due to recent excavations, restorations, restorations, and an increase in our knowledge of individual monuments and surrounding areas, it seemed timely to make an extensive summary. As a result of a two-phase work process, it was possible to formulate the hypotheses and findings in the studies in the usual way, which was based on on-site inspections, including the preparation of photographic documentation, as well as a critical review and source research of previous publications. The volumes have a rich visual material, sensitively presenting the past and present condition of the buildings.
