Description
The National Atlas of Hungary (MNA) was first published in 1967 and then in 1989. Depending on the possibilities, the new edition, which appears in four and four volumes in Hungarian and English, presents the dynamic spatial structure of nature, society and the economy not only in Hungary, but also in Hungary, the Carpathian Basin. In order to keep in touch with a wide range of social groups, in line with the requirements of the age, in addition to the representative, printed form, it will also appear in Hungarian and English digital versions (e-MNA). The national atlas is one of the most important national symbols, along with the “identity card” of a country, nation, flag, coat of arms and anthem. A series of maps that are logically, proportionately structured, relatively uniform in design, usually accompanied by textual explanations and various illustrations, showing the natural, economic, and social endowments of a given state to those interested. We are enriching our new national atlas with a volume presenting the society of our country. After exploring the past, the publication describes the characteristics and spatial processes related to the population and settlements, as well as synthesizing chapters and topics that analyze the intertwining and interactions of the social and natural environment (eg the human side of living conditions and quality of life, housing conditions and the urban environment). Scrolling through the illustrative thematic maps, we can find out about the territorial peculiarities of such topics as fertility, out-of-wedlock births, life expectancy, the main causes of death, the presence of foreigners, cross-border Hungarian-Hungarian migration or everyday commuting abroad, aging, aging. , cohabitation, ethnic-linguistic composition, religiosity and denominations, education, unemployment, income inequality, peri-urban development, types and dynamics of our towns and villages, transformation of Budapest and its agglomeration, hospital care, social assistance, first year of Covid-19, internet use, housing, housing market, road accidents and crime. On behalf of the hundreds of creators involved in the work, we express our hope that our dear readers - from here and beyond - will be able to rotate the printed volume with profit and pleasure (despite its large size) or read the digital version on the Atlas website. We hope that with its help they will get to know better the social environment of our country, the state of the population and settlements, the spatial characteristics of the living conditions and quality of life.
