Description
The Print Collection of the Ethnographic Museum preserves the most complete postcard material of the Hungarian language area, which presents costumes and costume series from the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Based on the photographs, the postcards made between 1880-1920 show the typical Hungarian and ethnic costumes and life pictures of the Hungarian regions. from the turn of the century. The framework of the selection is determined by the postcard collection of the Ethnographic Museum. In addition to the postcards, we used some photographs, drawings and paintings in the chapters where we present the genre of the postcard, its development, precedents, and its place in the era. The folk costumes appearing on the postcards were made on the basis of photographs, therefore most of them are suitable for the presentation, description and detailed description of the costume, of course taking into account the already mentioned data and information of the creators and publishers. Postcards are still considered an important pictorial documentation material today, as photocopied pages contain a lot of background information or sayings for postcard collectors, folk costumes, folklore researchers, some photographers, studios, publishers and printers alike.
