Description
The volume contains the correspondence between Miklós Mészöly, the founder of 20th-century Hungarian literature, and literary historian Tibor Tüskés, a prominent editor of the era. The remaining 114 original letter documents cover their writings dated from 1960 to 1997. (The last letter, letter 115, is the letter written by Polcz's widow, Alaine Tüskés, to Tibor). The correspondence of the two outstanding writers and thinkers for about 40 years gives us a glimpse into the social and literary political conditions of the years after 1960, the decades of the dictatorship, the activities of the personalities who influenced literary life, and we can get a glimpse into the origin of each of Mészöly's works, the development of the careers of the two writers too. At the end of the preface, there is a short list of literature about the writer and the present, and in the appendix, there is a bibliography of Mészöly's writings published in the present, his dedications to Tibor Tüskés, and Tüskés' writings related to Mészöly's work. The volume closes with an index and black-and-white photographs.
