Description
Dezső Csallány is an archaeologist and archaeologist. He was the director of the Somogy Library and the City Museum in Szeged between 1936 and 1944, and managed the András Jósa Museum in Nyíregyháza from 1954 to 1972. He has published several articles in Hungarian and German on archeological finds from the Avar period and the migration period. In 1963 he published his summary study entitled Memories of Szekler-Hungarian runic writing, which was published in small numbers in the yearbook of the András Jósa Museum in Nyíregyháza. Those interested in runic writing could only get it at an antique book auction at an astronomical price. The book is a worthy continuation of previous major monographs on runic writing: Gyula Sebestyén: Runic and runic writing. Gyula Sebestyén: Authentic memories of Hungarian runic writing. Gyula Németh: The Hungarian runic writing. Emil Jakubovics: The oldest alphabets of Szekler runic writing. In Dezső Csallány's book, he presents 33 significant, shorter and longer runic memoirs with an authentic picture of the memories. In each case, he describes the history of the creation and discovery of the runic memoir, presents in detail the results of a previous examination of the memoir, and gives the correct reading in his opinion. The memoirs presented and analyzed are the following: 1. Christmas runic inscription, 2. Székelyderzs runic series, 3. Nikolsburg alphabet, 4. Marsigli runic calendar, 5. Bögözi inscription, 6. Csíkszentmárton runic inscription, 7. Csíkszentmihályi inscription, 8. Konstantin 9. The notes of István Szamosközi, 10. The Rudiment of János Telegdi, 11. The two alphabets of István Csulyak of Miskolc, 12. The memorials of György Csipkés of Komárom, 13. The memorials of Gáspár Csulyak of Miskolc, 14. The Enlaki inscription, Letter sequence received from János Harsányi, 17. Hungarian ABC, 18. Ferenc Fóris Otrokocsi, 19. Alphabet of Mátyás Bél Kapossi, 20-30. The alphabet of nine and two other inscriptions in the Târgu Mureş manuscript, 31. Alphabets and excerpts found by János Herpai, 32. The runic alphabet of an unknown person, 33. Csángó-Szekler runic inscription from Moldavia. The signs used in the analyzed runic memoirs are summarized in tables on page 16. At the end of the volume, Dezső Csallány summarizes his important experiences in the study of Hungarian runic writing in the chapter entitled Characteristics of Szekler runic writing. We recommend this volume to all those for whom it is important to get to know the unique treasure of Hungarian culture, runic writing, and who would like to contribute to the knowledge of this cultural treasure.
