The path of parliamentary speech

László Siklóssy's book The Path of the Parliament's Speech is a unique presentation of the history of Hungarian shorthand, including the history of the Parliamentary Shorthand Office established in 1868. What makes Siklóssy's work, published in 1939, special is that the author worked on the topic through the history of the development of Hungarian parliamentarism and the press, in a cultural historical context that encompasses several areas. In the first volume of our book series entitled Memories of the Parliament, we present Siklóssy's work, which has been difficult to access for decades, in a true-to-text format. The interpretation of the contemporary text is aided and made even more colorful by the study of the chief archivist Violetta Hidvégi. The work of László Siklóssy is an enduring work that is interesting and valuable reading not only for those interested in politics and history, but also for a wider audience.
