Description
Ági Havas and Juci arrived in Auschwitz from Hungary in mid-July 1944. They were sixteen and, being identical twins, were very similar to each other. The two adolescent girls were sorted by a very well-dressed SS officer during the post-arrival sort - as they later learned, dr. Josef Mengele - set him aside in front of the locomotive, but immediately sent their father and grandmother to the gas chamber. In her book, Ágnes Havas, now eighty-six years old, who has been giving regular lectures on the Holocaust in high schools for quite a few years, describes the period she spent in Auschwitz, the daily life of the camp and the "life" there. His account also introduces readers to shocking, hitherto unknown facts.
