Anyone who begins to engage in aviation enters a wonderful world. You can get acquainted with the latest advances in science, technology and the ancient laws of nature at the same time. But even within this captivating world, there is an area where the most varied ideas and the most exciting problems can be encountered. This is a crowded group of special aircraft. In this volume, we attempt to provide a schematic picture of flying capabilities that differ markedly in size, shape, construction, or some other characteristic from conventional aircraft constructions. In this subject, completeness is, of course, unattainable. Human imagination and a desire for adventure have provided so many surprising novelties in the barely hundred-year history of aviation that could fill not only a book but an entire library merrily.
