Description
There are special underground facilities in countless places under the streets of Budapest. In the Castle of Buda, under the last house of Uri Street, there is a facility with a floor area of more than 1700 m2, reaching 33 meters deep. The Hungarian National Bank instructed its construction in 1936. From the cave cellars under the building, a secret safe and shelter was established, which was built in the II. it saved the lives of many people during World War II, and human destinies and stories unfolded within its walls. A part of Hungary's gold reserves was also kept here during the war years. In the ’50s, due to the“ need for a high level of protection, ”the Load Distributor (electricity supply control center) moved to the facility. For several decades, the electrical networks and systems of Hungary and Budapest were controlled from here. Today, the facility has been abandoned and much of its equipment has been dismantled or thrown away. In many places, its condition is very deteriorating and deserves urgent and thorough renovation. This book serves to acquaint and save this geological, historical and technical monument at the same time.
