Description
The volume contains the eavesdropping protocols recorded by the Romanian state security authorities between 1957 and 1960 as a result of eavesdropping via a microphone placed in the office of Bishop Áron Márton. Their value as a source for the historian is inestimable, and through them we can learn more about the church-political ideas of Áron Márton, his hopes and fears related to Eastern politics, his network of relationships, the archbishop who was passive towards the state but sometimes encouraged resistance, the personal antagonisms and conflicts within the bishop's hall, the diocese and diocesan institutions, or even the functioning of some parishes, and last but not least, a bishop who is concerned about anti-minority measures in Romania and protests against them. The minutes are introduced by the studies of Zoltán Mihály Nagy and Denisa Bodeanu, and the researchers' work is supported by a bibliography and indexes.
