Historical state geography of Hungary

The history of the Hungarian state and the conscious control and protection of the state borders were constantly connected. The history of the grassland system, the county of the border (guard), Transylvania is largely related to border protection, the depth of the Banat protection zone and border line along the southern borders of the country, and then the history of the Military Border Guard generated far-reaching effects. After the compromise, the internal and external borders carried functionally different content. Historical Hungary, which disintegrated with the defeat of the First World War, was in a barely defensible environment in a hostile environment. Hungary had a great-power neighbor almost always, but the German and Soviet neighborhoods during World War II proved almost fatal. After losing World War II, the country integrated into the structures of the divided world. The double Iron Curtain created special borderlands for both the West and the Soviet Union. In the changing world after the Cold War, the country's borders remained in many respects, and the border dimensions of NATO and the EU are still evident in the country's life.
