Tibor Grüll, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Head of Department at the University of Pécs and St. Paul's Academy. His main area of research is the history of the Roman Empire, with particular reference to its economic and social history. His books on this topic have been published so far: The Last Empire: A Natural History of the Imperial Romanum (Typotex, 2007); 50 things you would not have imagined about the Romans (Kalligram, 2013); Seafood: The Role of the Seas in the Economy of the Roman Empire (Kronos, 2016); The Economy of the Roman Empire (Thought, 2017). At the same time, the history of Hellenistic and Roman Jewry and early Christianity is also at the forefront of his interest, as evidenced by his following volumes: Pontius Pilatus: A Career History (St. Paul’s Academy, 2002); Memory Engraved in Stone: Inscriptions of Late-Antique Synagogues (Jószöveg Műhely, 2004); Traitor or savior? The Life and Works of Flavius Josephus (Kalligram, 2010). To date, more than a hundred scientific publications have been published in domestic and foreign journals, and the number of disseminating articles exceeds two hundred.
