Description
But what is narrative poetry? Poetry that has a historical core or tells a story. Either it draws from personal mythology or from history or classical myths. These are often mixed up. This does not happen differently in Krisztián Tóbiás's poetic narration, or rather in his poetry (we can hardly speak of a poetic novel in the case of a text with barely thirty-five thousand strokes). The private mythology of the invoked peasant grandfather is mixed with a professional biblical interpretation and wisdom, where the teachings of Jesus or the Lord God himself are just as much a part of everyday life as society, or the anomalies of the narrower patria, the village: "when he saw / that on the edge of the village / the out of the corn / the savior walked forward", or elsewhere: "he clings / always has to cling / to the confessional / and always to something / the lord's cloak / the lord's cloak is all silk / a slippery black silk cloak / and he rolls down to hell / the liar / down / among the devils / into the cauldron / and there they cook their fat / dare the son of man's fat contains lies / and the devils eat that / that is what the devils eat there / with moldy bread. This is (perhaps) the afterlife to smile at -interpretation, it may seem too naive, but it is very real in its place and time, in fact, I will go further: reality itself.
