Description
A key novel in the highland literature of the 1930s is a message of Hope hidden in the family history of Beregszász: to leave or to remain from Transcarpathia under Czech occupation? The time of the novel's plot is three years after the fall of the state in the autumn of 1918, it is no coincidence that the history of the protagonist Iván Bodas reflects the emerging minority destiny in the history of his young years. He was born in Beregszász to a Slavic father and a Hungarian mother, and was a student of the Budapest University of Technology at the beginning of the novel's plot. One day, he realizes that there is a line between his homeland and the Hungarian capital. Moreover, “back home”, Beregszász has not yet developed the new form of minority under Czechoslovak rule, “here”, and no one in the capital is able to acknowledge that two-thirds of the country’s territory has been lost… “Tamás Mihály shows that a radical, how the poisons and antidotes of time work throughout the life of a bloody and typically Slovenian man. ” (Géza Féja, 1936)
