Description
This book is not what it seems. Not the publication of the love triangle of a brilliant young actress and two extraordinary men with the usual explanatory notes. This book is a strange novel written by the characters themselves. Before and during World War I, the young stars of the National Theater: Bavarian Gizi, and Ödön Vajda, the future star lawyer, were engaged lovers. But the war breaks out, and Artillery Vajda, the Russian and then on the Italian front, writes his love letters to his bride on a ammunition box next to the cannon, who is reaping his first great successes at the National Theater in the plays of Sándor Bródy, Zsigmond Móricz and Ferenc Molnár. Due to his weak lungs, the theater sends him to a Tatra sanatorium in the Tatras, but by this time he had already appeared in his life and was severely besieged by Endre Ady's friend and supporter, one of the founders of the West, himself a writer: Baron Lajos Hatvany. A love triangle is formed. The actress writes her letters on the front amid the torturous torments of remorse, but in the meantime she has an affair with Hatvany. Eventually, everything turns out that Hatvany emigrates from Vienna to the Soviet Republic, Artillery Lieutenant Vajda disbandes, forgives, and marries Giz Bavarian, but their marriage can no longer be what they envisioned, and it won’t last long. The actress lied in her fiancé’s letters, but we find out we see the truth: she was sincerely in love with both men. He was able to keep the absent groom to himself by somehow lending himself to the seducer present because he was unable to live without love. As you yourself write, "Without love I die." The triple correspondence, which first appears here for the most part, is the unparalleled document of the life of Budapest at the beginning of the last century, the theatrical and press worlds, not least the contemporary emotional culture, three extraordinary people in the novel's characters.
