Pacsirta lives in Sárszeg with her parents. In Sárszeg, where ash-gray dust falls on the streets all year round, but from the restaurant of the King of Hungary the wind carries the great, paprika scent of the stew, and the noise of fun, gypsy music and song beats beats the nights. The parents of Pacsirta - Ákos Vajkay from Kisvajka and Köröshegy and Antónia Bozsó from Kecfalva - have long been used to these noises. They live for themselves, quietly. They worship with reverent admiration, fearing for their only treasure: Pacsirtat, the ugly girl. Happy, satisfied. At least that's what they think of themselves. But one day at the beginning of this story, he travels to the countryside of Pacsirta, to his relatives. He's been away from his parents' home for a week.
