Description
By confronting the great ideals of the past, Mikszáth revealed the empty, unrealistic public life of his time. The protagonist - the unexpectedly resurrected former hero of Szigetvár - made a mocking-bitter testimony of the unadorned present with his own grotesque modern destiny. An artistic idea reminiscent of the great satirists of world literature, with its fantasy, pulled things far apart, and in this sharpness, in an extraordinary light, the otherwise accepted and seemingly natural missteps became striking. He showed that the Zrínyi family could once be heroes because their lives were burned in the service of a great, true cause, but in petty circumstances, in the suffocating, filthy public life of an illegitimate age, their former greatness would be legally ridiculous and distorted. However, since Mikszáth himself could not go beyond the emptiness of the gentleman's public life, the big conceptual satirical overview of NEW Zrínyiás remained outlined: at the end of the work, an imaginary enemy attack revives the former knight in Zrínyi .
